Nordpil

Nordpil was asked to provide the Basel Convention with a set of posters on transboundary flows of hazardous waste and on the latest relevant statistics reported by countries. The final posters were presented to participants at a special meeting for related conventions on waste and dangerous substances, in Bali in February 2010.

The database of cities and megacities has been updated to version 1.1. Coordinates have been corrected and the license changed, among other things. The data is available as maps, for Google Earth, in an animation video and for GIS data download.

The new resources section of this website presents free downloads from Nordpil. The first entry under this heading is a georeferenced database of large urban areas from 1950-2050 with historic estimates and projections of population figures. The member states of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) are some of the main emitters of greenhouse gases, with the EU, USA and Canada among others. The report Catalysing change - the UNECE response to the climate countdown, prepared for the COP15 climate conference in December 2009 summaries the activities among the UNECE members to mitigate and act on climate change. Nordpil prepared all illustrations and layout for this report.

The second volume of Cartography Design Annual has just been published. This publication presents samples of the best-designed maps published in 2008, and a map by Hugo Ahlenius was selected for this edition.

The latest issue of the Swedish climate magazine Effekt features maps prepared by Nordpil. The illustrations accompany an article on vulnerability to climate change in Sweden.

A report for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) was recently finalized. It features layout and illustrations by Nordpil. The publication addresses climate change in Europe, Central Asia and North America, and will be presented at the upcoming COP-15 climate change meeting in Copenhagen, December 2009.
