I am currently migrating a mail setup, and moving Popfile from a windows host to my Ubuntu server, to enable spam filtering in front of Dovecot, using the IMAP module, here are some notes on how to do it... !

On my Ubuntu server, I have been trying to set up Geonetwork and Geoserver. I had a conflict with some shared libraries loaded to Tomcat, and I managed to solve it by installing a second instance of Tomcat, here is how I did it.

I thought it would nice to have an easy simple GIS data server set up, so here are some notes on installing QGis Server on Ubuntu 13.10 (saucy).

I have very mature development environment in python 2.7.5, centered around ArcPy (ArcGIS python bindings) and iPython (a very useful python shell). I just updated my QGis install (using OSGeo4W64), and I thought I would try to add the QGis python bindings to my existing install - here is how to do it!

I recently had a need for updated climate change maps for a client. The client specifically requested that the maps should contain data from the latest analys by the IPCC. After some searching I found the NOAA ESRL/PSD Climate Change Portal. This website provides averages of all models for the variables that I was interested in: temperature, precipitation and acidity in a format that was easy to bring into ArcGIS.

One feature that I have missed in ArcGIS 10 and above is the index tab that was available as a dockable pane. Then I found this great add-in that has been a separate download for each version of ArcGIS - it wasn't available when I first started upgraded ArcGIS 10.2, but now it is here!

I do a lot research in my job, and sometimes I need to narrow down a search for a specific website. As a little exercise, I prepared this little javascript bookmarklet to perform a google search on the site that one is currently visiting.
