Globalis Rainforest

Globalis rainforest portalWith funding from the Norwegian Government, the Norwegian UN Association has continued to expand the Globalis information service.

Globalis presents facts, maps and statistics on sustainable development and the world. Its target audience is Norwegian high-school students.

The new rainforest portal presents the status and extent of tropical rainforests, as well as the threats to these unique environments. To explain the importance of tropical rainforest biomes for the biosphere and humanity, the pages present the various ecosystem services provided by these forests. Another important part of the site is the discussion and description of REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries), which is a new mechanism to combat climate change while supporting conservation. REDD is growing in importance, and is supported by organizations such as the UN.

For more information, refer to the Globalis biodiversity portal (in Norwegian), and the Globalis interactive map service.
