- Arctic Resilience Interim Report 2013

The Arctic Resilience Interim Report 2013 was presented in May at the Kiruna Ministerial Meeting of the Arctic Council. All diagrams, charts and maps in the report were prepared by Hugo Ahlenius, Nordpil, in close collaboration with the editorial team and contributing scientists. The report summarizes the current state of science for resilience of the socio-ecological systems in the circumpolar north, and their potential to withstand shocks and stresses.

Hugo Ahlenius was invited to speak at the Open Source GIS Sweden 2013 conference in May. The conference, organized by ULI Geoforum, gathered actors involved in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) using open source solutions in Sweden. Hugo Ahlenius presented best practices and methods for clear and powerful web cartography.

- UArctic student network exchange maps and diagrams

Graphics previously prepared by Nordpil were updated in early 2013 with new data: statistics on exchanges in the University of the Arctic North2North student mobility program. The program allows exchanges among higher education institutions in the Arctic. Several maps and circular diagrams were prepared, one of which is featured in the 2013 issue of Shared Voices magazine.

The ESRI Map Book, presented at the company's International User Conference in July each year, presents a selection of the best maps prepared in the previous year. In the 2013 edition, vol. 28, Nordpil prepared four of the selected maps, including the one featured on the cover.

The premier geographic information conference in Sweden is Kartdagarna, organized by the Swedish Cartographic Society. The 2013 event took place in Jönköping in March. Nordpil's work was represented in the map gallery by two posters.

A new report from the Stockholm Environment Institute reviews developments in Sweden's hydropower sector between 1990 and 2012. To present an overview of the case studies in the report, Nordpil prepared an overview map of the hydropower stations covered in the report, including descriptions.

- Elephant maps

The status and future for the African elephant, the world's largest remaining land animal, is the subject of a new report by UNEP/GRID-Arendal. The report, which is part of the Rapid Response Assessment series, features maps and scenario analysis by Nordpil. The analysis uses the GLOBIO model, and presents human development and its possible impacts now and by 2050.

Two maps by Nordpil were selected to represent Swedish cartography at the 2013 International Cartography Association (ICA) conference in Dresden, Germany, held in August 2013. The map posters were originally prepared for the 2012 Kartdagarna map exhibition and present protected areas in the Arctic and the bathymetry of the Arctic Ocean.
