- Cartography workshop in Umeå

Nordpil was contracted to hold a full-day cartography (map design) workshop for professionals working for the municipality of Umeå in northern Sweden. The workshop took place in August 2012, and featured lectures and interactive exercises based on topics such as map critique and deconstruction. The 35 participants were surveyors, cadastral staff, GIS engineers and cartographers.

- Survey results

In 2010, to learn more about the way environmental and sustainable development professionals use charts, maps and diagrams, we conducted a short survey. The results have now been published, and they provide an interesting picture of these users' needs and capabilities in terms of preparing illustrations and using graphics for the communication of information related to climate change, environmental issues and sustainable development.

Nordpil assisted the North Shore Community Health Network in Massachusetts by preparing GIS data for a set of interactive maps. The maps, prepared using the OIC Weave platform, present health indicators for the 18 communities in the northern Massachusetts network.

- SWIPA assessment scientific report

The assessment on Snow, Water, Ice and Permafrost in the Arctic - SWIPA - represents the most comprehensive compilation of scientific knowledge on the impacts of climate change. Nordpil supported the scientific report editors in researching data and preparing figures for final layout.

- Interactive ArcGIS map for UNEP

Nordpil assisted the UNEP Continental Shelf Programme with the migration of an existing ESRI ArcIMS interactive map to ArcGIS Server Javascript API. The map enables the examination of a wealth of marine geological data.

A new map has been added to the portfolio pages - showcasing the Arctic Oceans basemap prepared by Nordpil for UNEP/GRID-Arendal.

A new Greasemonkey user script has been added to the resources section. This script makes it easy to copy and paste coordinates from Wikipedia geography pages.

- Arctic ocean basemap

As background information for an upcoming data service, Nordpil was contracted to prepare a very high-resolution multi-scale basemap for the circumpolar Arctic. The map integrates data from different sources, and is implemented at three scale levels.

- Animated maps 20X0

The exhibition 20X0 – A Journey into the Future, currently on display at the Heureka Science Centre in Helsinki, Finland, features a display with animated maps on the economy, population and biodiversity. The videoclips cover a timespan from 1970-2050, blending historic data, estimates and projections.

- Arctic Protected Areas

A new report from the Arctic Council examines the current status of conservation and protected areas in the Arctic. Nordpil was commissioned to prepare the maps for the report.
